12 Awesome Things About Buffalo, New York, 02/15/2009

1) Unlike some places on the Weather channel's website, Buffalo's temperature is updated every 30 minutes. 

2) The inhabitants of this fine city are very friendly. 

3) The Elmwood Avenue/Allentown/Chippawa area is incredibly hip/funky.

4) The City is very walkable. It is less than 3 miles to get downtown from North Buffalo!

5) The City features Olmstead designed parks, arguably the most incredible public parks in the world!

6) Rents are affordable-about $600 for a 2-bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood.

7) There is a lot of fine dining options on Elmwood Avenue, Allen Street, and Main Street, all of which are fairly affordable.

8) The Lexington CO-OP, a fantastic organic food store is within walking distance of North Buffalo. 

9) Most of the stores on Elmwood are independently owned, not Big-box corporate stores!

10) There is a well-developed art scene. Between Buffalo Rising and ArtVoice, there are over 200 art-related events each week.

11) The Birchfield Penny was recently completed, a modern art museum that is highly energy efficient.

12) Buffalo State offers a very good value, $7,000 for 2 semesters with very good professors. I have yet to have a teacher's assistant yet.
